Costeña is born from a way of seeing the Caribbean.
Costeña is an art, science and biodiversity project born on the coast of Aguada, Puerto Rico. It emerges from a desire to honor the ocean, show our flora and fauna, and transform the everyday beauty of the Caribbean into experiences we can touch, observe, and remember. Through analog sun-printing, poetry, and the exploration of nature, Costeña creates pieces and experiences that connect art and home. Each creation seeks to be a small act of memory: a way of preserving species, landscapes, stories, and the bonds we share with the land we inhabit.
Behind Costeña is Cristina Rodríguez Chico, a visual artist and social worker. Raised by the sea, her way of seeing and feeling the world has been shaped by oral tradition, the ocean, nature, community, and struggles to defend the land. From an ecopolitical perspective, she uses art as a form of memory, resistance, and connection to the world around us.
Costeña is an invitation to look closely, discover what is ours, and carry a little piece of the Caribbean with you.
